Beth Helsby - Principal, Keyboard and Vocal Teacher
YMSK Principal Beth Helsby is an experienced keyboard and vocal teacher, well known in the Kendal area. Beth has a degree in music, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and holds the Certificate of Teaching from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (CT-ABRSM). She has been teaching music for over ten years, specialising in singing and keyboard and is experienced in teaching all age groups, from pre-school children to adults. Beth has taught in a variety of locations, including primary schools, secondary schools and further education Colleges as well as in less formal settings. |

Alisun Russell Pawley – Vocal Tutor
Alisun is an experienced teacher and performer specialising in the voice. She has taught in a range of settings, from primary schools to running the vocal education scheme Voicebox across Yorkshire, and currently teaches singing at Kendal College. Born in Miami, Florida, Alisun is completing a PhD in Music at the University of York, researching ‘singalongability’ in popular song. She has a MA in Vocal Studies and has studied classical, pop and folk singing. She performs regularly as a soloist and in various ensembles, and is happy to teach a range of vocal styles, from rock to classical. |

Keith Redfern – Guitar Tutor
Keith has been playing the guitar for over 20 years during which time he has been regularly performing in bands and as a solo artist playing a wide variety of musical styles including rock, blues, folk and jazz He attended Newcastle college where he gained a HND in Music Production and has since worked regularly in many schools around the area both as a guitar teacher and a music composition/technology tutor. He has also worked as a music leader on many educational programmes, such as the recent R factor competition. He has been teaching guitar for 5 years to both adult and children learners, in groups and one to one, and enjoys teaching a wide variety of styles. |

John Powney – Drum Tutor
John was worked as a drummer for a number of years, recording and gigging with some of the North West’s top musicians. He’s had a couple of record deals, toured the UK on several occasions and continues to write, record, produce and play with a varied selection of musicians. He began teaching at 16 and has had several students who have gone on to play professionally and a couple who made the last 10 of ‘Young Drummer of the Year’. John teaches all aspects of drumming including reading, technique, phrasing and most importantly listening. |

Christine Grant – Keyboard, Drum and Vocal Tutor
Christine graduated from the RSAMD with a B.Ed Degree in 1998 and has just moved to the Lake District from Scotland where she taught for 10 years as a music teacher in primary and secondary schools. She has also been a visiting examiner for the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). Christine has worked with many different groups including choir/orchestra/rock band and was producer for a school CD using a local community recording studio. She enjoys working with children and adults using music they enjoy. Christine teaches Flute, Keyboard, Piano, Vocals and Drums. |
